University of Tsukuba Masters Scholarship Program in Economic and Public Policy (Fully funded) Japan
ABOUT (GENERAL)
The PEPP started out in 1995 as the Master’s Program in Policy Management and it was part of the Graduate School of International Political Economy of the University of Tsukuba. From the beginning it was conceived as a trans-disciplinary program aimed at mid-career professionals in developing and transition economies. Following a restructuring of the Graduate Programs at the University of Tsukuba in 2009, the Program was renamed Master’s Program in Economic and Public Policy Management (PEPPM) and became embedded into the new Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences. While keeping its trans-disciplinary character, the existing options for new scholars were expanded by the creation of two lines of teaching and research: the Course in Economic Policy and the Course in International Public Policy, a structure that has been kept until 2015. In the past 20 years, the Program has received successive cohorts every two years, 10 in all, for studies lasting two years. Nearly 100 scholars from developing countries have been supported by scholarships from the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP).
The program is divided onto two main programs; The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) and The Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP)
ABOUT (The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program)
The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is open to women and men from developing countries with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries’ development efforts who are applying to a master degree program in a development-related topic.
BENEFITS
The JJ/WBGSP scholarship provides the recipient with the following benefits:
Economy class air travel between your home country and the host university at the start of your study program and immediately following the end of the scholarship period.
In addition to the two-way air travel, scholars will receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip;
Tuition for your graduate program and the cost of basic medical insurance usually obtained through the university.
A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books.
ELIGIBILITY
To apply for a JJ/WBGSP scholarship, applicant must:
Be a national of a World Bank (WB) member country that is eligible to receive WB financing and not be a national of any country that is not eligible to receive the WB financing.
Be in good health with respect to the capacity to be a productive scholar for the duration of the Graduate Program, as certified by a medical doctor.
Hold a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with superior academic achievement earned more than three (3) years before the Scholarship Application Deadline.
Not have received any scholarship funding to earn a Graduate degree or its equivalent from any sources funded by the government of Japan.
Be employed in a paid and full-time position at the time of the Scholarship Application Deadline unless the applicant is from a country identified in the WB’s “Harmonized List of Fragile Situations.”
Have, by the time of the Scholarship Application Deadline, at least three (3) years of recent full-time paid professional experience acquired in development-related work after a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. If the applicant is from a country identified in the WB’s “Harmonized List of Fragile Situations” at the time of the Scholarship Application Deadline, the recent professional experience does not have to be full-time or paid.
Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, staff of the World Bank Group (the World Bank, International Development Association, International Finance Corporation, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes), or a close relative of the aforementioned.
ABOUT (The Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program)
The Asian Development Bank–Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) was established in April 1988 with financing from the Government of Japan.
It aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of ADB's developing member countries to undertake postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region.
Upon completion of their study programs, scholars are expected to contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.

ELIGIBILITY
To apply for an ADB-JSP scholarship, applicant must:
Not be enrolled in other graduate degree programs.
Not be living or working in a country other than his/her home country.
Not be an Executive Director, Alternate Director, management, staff or consultant of ADB, or a relative of the aforementioned. Staff of the JSP-designated institutions are not eligible to apply to their own institution.
Agree to return to his/her home country after completion of studies under the Program.
Be in good health.
Be not more than 35 years of age at the time of application.
Have proficiency in oral and written English communication skills.
Have at least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application.
Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with superior academic record.
Gain admission to an approved MA/PhD course at an academic institution.
Be a national of an Asian Development Bank (ADB) borrowing member.
