How to get a fully funded scholarship in 2021 (Writing your personal statement or Cover Letter)

There is an art and science to getting a fully-funded scholarship. Most of us spend time on the science of it (procedures and demands) forgetting that the art of it matters. The art of getting a fully-funded scholarship involves creativity, flexibility, and preparing ahead of time. This post is part 2 of a 5-part series in which I am going to teach you the art and science of getting a fully-funded scholarship.

Your Personal statement of Cover Letter

This is one document that is asked by almost all scholarship providers. This is because this is the document through which they 'hear your voice'. This is how they get to know you so writing a solid personal statement or cover letter is extremely important.

Three things are important when you approach writing a personal statement or cover letter:

-The Who?

-The Why? and

-The How?

The Who?

This is where you introduce yourself to the scholarship provider. What should they know about you? What makes you interesting? What will make them curious about meeting you? Those are the questions you have to ask yourself and think about as you answer the Who? part. In the video below, I give you a strategy that can help you in this process.

The Why?

It is important that you remember both the goals of the scholarship provider and your goals. Are you a good fit for their scholarship ad is the scholarship a good fit for you? If you think so, why? justify why you think so.

The How?

This is a continuation of the why question. If you are able to justify why the scholarship is a good fit for you and you are a good fit to the scholarship, show how that is so. How exactly will you help the scholarship provider achieve their goal and how will they help you achieve yours? In the video above, I give you some ideas on how to think about it.

Good luck everyone and please don't miss out on any opportunities. There seems to be a slowdown in the roll-out of scholarships this year.

If you have any questions, put them in the comments section of the video above and I will respond to ALL.
